Motorola, the global number-three in its business is definitely struggling against the innovative and feature rich Apple’s iPhone. Their move to cutoff the jobs immediately after the dropping share has revealed it clearly. Motorola has planned few more strategies to compete with next-generation cellular handsets and Smartphones. Selecting only three mobile OS platforms to work with is one of the major decisions. Currently they are working on seven such platforms. After the wonderful success of Google’s Linux based Android, now Motorola is heading towards partnership with Google. Android is one of those three mobile OS selected. However, they still have preferred to stick with Windows as they have announced Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system for their mobile and digital products.
But the company has definitely realized that it has to switch to Android for curtailing the prices and competing in the market with Apple. Company believes that its fewer features have to be compensated by reducing the prices. It would be interesting to see how all these come to effect and whether it is effective in reviving Motorola’s hold on cellular handset business.
