It is well observed fact that Sino-US ties were never good. But now with Google defying Chinese censorship on its search results situation is believed to get more bitter. China says Google is politicizing the censorship issue and it has no intention of hacking Google accounts and breaking into Google’s network to steal any code. Chinese believe that US govt is backing Google to publicize this issue. Google already has stopped filtering search results by directing it to server based at Hong Kong. Meanwhile, Google also announced that they are stopping all their businesses in china except perhaps the research works. Looking to the current war of words and defiance it is almost certain that Google China is going to disappear soon. Google is definitely going to incur heavy loss if it withdraws from China. Even few hundred Chinese will lose their job. However finding a job for ex-Google employee is not tough in any part of the world, though it would be painful. After all, Google is Google. Chinese govt, though fumed over Google’s defiance and US’s backdoor role play, is convinced that people will soon get used to other popular search engine and other search search engines would gain a lot from it.
This mild war is interesting. I am excited as I can’t imagine internet without Google. Lets wait and watch for few more days.
